- My nicknames include: “Davis,” “Dave,” “Davey,” “David”...the band has others for me, but we won't go there.
- Instruments: Singer, percussion, also play acoustic guitar, some keyboards, native American flute, and a little bass.
- Brands: microphones and in-ear monitor system - Shure. I also own a Specter bass, a Washburn electric guitar, a Charvel 625C Electric-Acoustic guitar, and an ancient Kimball and Bach upright piano.
- My favorite bands or musical artists are: Fourplay (jazz), Toto (rock), Earth Wind & Fire (R&B); singers: Al Jarreau, Sam Cooke, Norah Jones.
- My first paying gig was at the age of 5. I danced and sang on a table at my Uncle George's restaurant, The Davis Grill, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Elvis on the jukebox while people left quarters on the table. Then I was on hiatus for 17 years until I played the McCrory Skating Rink, (where Black Oak got its start) with a college brass group called SHAGG.
- I have been married to Cheryl since 1981 and we have three great children, Jessica (b. 1983), who is a Hendrix psychology graduate and music specialist at Birch Tree Community; Corey (b. 1992), who plays drums in the LEVItes, our contemporary Christian band at Lakewood UMC; and Andrew (b. 1994), who plays trumpet in the Lakewood Middle School band.
- We have three dogs, Roxie, a rat terrier; Bebe, a miniature pinscher; and Buster, terrier/min-pin mix; a ball python, a red-tailed boa constrictor, a Brook's king snake, a Chilean Rose Haired tarantula, an African fat tailed gecko, and a Mali Urimastyx (spike tailed desert lizard).
- In “real life,” my last real day job was as director of Gifted Programs for the Pulaski County Special School District. I retired after 31 years in public education in 2005 and now am a freelance consultant and teach some education classes for UALR.
- Currently, my favorite food is a Mickey Blue Eyes soft taco from MOE's, and I drink a lot of juices, preferably berry flavored...or anything without added corn syrup. If I drink a beer, which is seldom any more, it has to be a Honey Brown, which Phillip refuses to put on our rider list.
- Something about me most people don't know: I was adopted at birth and know my birth mother.
- The most interesting person I have met - my dear friend Rudolph Harst is one of the most interesting people I have been blessed to know, as he has followed his dream and lives it every day of his life. Another really interesting person is Don Shaw, a prolific artist and sculptor who does amazing things with everything. However, the MOST interesting person I have ever known is the lady who had my children. Cheryl is the most stimulating and engaging person I have ever known. She somehow manages to be all things to all people and does it all with class.
- The musicians I play with in the Rockets are some of my favorite to play with, but I will have to mention some folks I played with in Gibraltar who remain dear friends: Mark Johnson, David Higginbotham, Kathy Cooper, Steve Hackler, Mike Carrigan, Keith Stewart, Gil Colaianni, Robert Dobbins, Mike McGowan, Richard Mason, and Wes Sossamon; and then, with the KSSN Bandits: Chuck Gilbert, Andrew Frye, Jonathon Joyner, Snook Crossley, and Eric Nolen; and with Ambusch: David and Scott Kloss, Herb Conway, and Doc Adkins. I've been on stage with some more famous than these, but none any better than these.
- My favorite color is royal blue, but I'm kind of partial to the rainbow that comes from a crystal when the sun shines through it...
- My favorite comedian is Robin Williams, who still brings me to tears without even a script. Love the improv people.
- Personal note: Thanks to God for the blessing of being able to still do something I love with people I love.
